houses and cookies

December 3rd, 2009 (05:34 pm)
excited

current mood: excited

We haven’t moved yet. The deal fell through on the house. I don’t want to bore anyone with the details, but it wasn’t because of us. The house was about to fall into foreclosure and there were title issues. So now we have found an even bigger house for less money. It’s a town home and it’s gorgeous- 1700+ square feet, built in 2006, 2 story (which I love) and the kitchen is really nice. I can’t wait to move. Waiting is torture. We are really excited about this one.

I’m sitting here pigging out on butter cookies. The kind in the blue tin. There used to be these Christmas cookies that came in a bag with red and green sugar sprinkles on them that my mom was sure to buy every year and I miss them so much. I look but can never find any. They were shaped like Santas, stars, etc. Food Lion used to have them about 6 years ago. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Where can I find some?

I was just on IMDB reading the comments for New Moon and people are totally bashing the movie like they are surprised that it isn't a super fabulous film. Come on people. It's not like the books are the best in the world. I HAVE enjoyed the books so far, but I don't take them too serious. Kristin Stewart's acting is horrible and there really is no chemistry between them (in the movies at least.) If I hadn't read any of the books I probably would be bashing the movies, too. But I enjoyed it for what it is.

Happy Birthday to Me

November 22nd, 2009 (12:42 am)
 thankful and old

current mood: thankful and old

Technically, my birthday was yesterday.

I am 30.

Shit.

I don't usually use curse words, but I'M THIRTY.

Joel and I went to St. Johns Seafood for delicious fried shrimp and then to AMC for New Moon. IT WAS GOOD. It followed the book pretty close and the wolves were done very well. Definitely a step up from the first movie.

Girls actually screamed when Jacob took his shirt off. My only complaint was that the ending of the book (the part with Jacob) was more emotional than in the film.

Oh yeah. Joel gave me Brutal Legend (which is amazing and hilarious)and my dad gave Joel and I a gift card for Target. (our birthdays are 9 days apart) I bought some makeup brushes and a new purse that I can carry books and my notebook in and some eyeliner. Still have $18 left. Joel got a fax/print/scanner thingy. Kyle gave me a cheesecake with chocolate topping. YES! I loves cheesecake.

Boycott Mardi Gras and their Beads...

November 16th, 2009 (06:15 pm)

current mood: enraged

My brother and I watched a documentary called "Mardi Gras: Made In China" the other day. It was definitely an eye-opener. I knew sweat shops existed and people in various places of the world put up with mistreatment to earn a living, but this was very disturbing. Watch it if you have a chance and DONT BUY those BEADS! I know this is one of the MANY products produced this way, but it bothered me because my kids have a bunch of them and play with them all the time. The poor women, and few men, who work there put in 14 hour days and make something like $60 A MONTH.

One of the things that pissed me off was the ass who owned the shop said "We like to hire mostly women because they are easier to control." He said it with creepy, smug look on his face. Ugh.

The beads are sold at Wal-Mart, among other stores. So, this is one of the reasons Wal-Mart is so cheap, huh? I was worried that Garanimals brand clothing was made under the same circumstances, but I don't think so. My kids have a lot of that stuff.

My biggest question is: Why is America supporting this?!

This morning was perfect; it felt so good to walk outside. The air was a little bit cool but the sun's warmth was just right. Now the sky’s gray and it looks like rain.

Went to Hobbly Lobby over the weekend with Christopher and Ayla. I was looking for items for my Samus armor but didn't have too much luck. I really wanted to get a sheet or 2 of styrene just to see how it’s going to work but instead found some 12x18 sheets of foam for the armor backing and some little battery-powered Christmas lights. I'm committed to doing this but am a little scared that it's going to fail... must stay positive.

Today we stopped by the Thrift Store on my lunch break and found a nasty old helmet for $3 that I’m going to tear up and cut up. Now if I could figure out what the heck I’m going to cut this thing with.

For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, here she is:

cosplay

November 6th, 2009 (05:36 pm)
nerdy

current mood: nerdy

Kyle asked me the other day if I was going to dress up for the next Megacon which got me thinking. Here’s what I made and entered into the 2008 Anime Sushi cosplay contest:

Princess Ai Princess Ai

It was a lot of fun and I want to do it again. But who should I be? Last year I wanted to do Lina Inverse, but time and money were scarce, so I just finished my skirt/overskirt and dressed that up.

I want to do something extravagant. But what? It would be cool to do a Brutal Legend group maybe on Friday. That would be really fun to make but none of the guys want to dress up with me. I also really want to do Samus Aran. She’s one of my all-time fave game girls. That would be difficult but the challenge would make it even better. The Crow and Belldandy are also special to me. Hmmm…..

The more I’m sitting here thinking about it, the more I want to make a Varia Suit. With LED lights and a light-up shiny gun. I think I’m going too go to Hobby Lobby tonight to see what kind of materials they have. I’d love to use plastic but am thinking about some type of foam sheets that could be painted to look shiny. Or I wonder if paper mache could be made thick enough to make her shoulder armor? That piñata me and Aeries made last year was really tough.

Last night, Joel was searching Craig's List for a fridge and mower and came across this ad for a boat. We definitely had our minds in the gutter because we were all cracking up:

70's Johnson 5 HP - $250

Medium shaft, 4 inches longer than a short shaft
Positive drive, no gearcase, spins around for reverse
Perfect for dingy, raft, jon boat, sailboat or auxillary power
Idles down like a dream, runs awesome
Water cooled, pumps great

Do we have a new Bilbo yet?

I hope so. He has the right look.
Bagginses

Left - Martin Freeman
Right - Ian Holm

It still hasn't been released who will be playing Bilbo in The Hobbit films, but I am dying to know. There were a lot of rumors that James McAvoy would play him. I do like him, but he just didn't feel right to me as Bilbo. Not sure why. Probably because he looks nothing like Ian Holm. The character is very dear to me (and so many other fans) and I want it to be perfect.

I know Peter Jackson is producing, but I wish he was directing again. I'm so excited that they're making the films. It was sad when LotR was finished. Now we (Tolkien Fans) have something to look forward to again.

Also, read this interview with SIR Ian McKellen - it's hilarious. I love him.
